The dashboard top goes first, because it sits under glass that concentrates heat. It fades, then it hardens, then it cracks along the moulding lines, and at that point it is not repairable.

Rubber seals go next. Door and window seals dry out, shrink slightly, and stop sealing properly, which is how dust starts appearing inside a car that used to stay clean.

Paint is third and slowest. Clearcoat oxidises from the top surfaces down, so the roof and bonnet go chalky while the doors still look fine.

Tyre sidewalls are the one nobody watches. Constant UV brings the browning to the surface and eventually causes fine cracking in the rubber.

A windscreen shade costs almost nothing and delays the first two by years. Coating handles the third. The fourth just needs a proper dressing at each visit.
